A2P 10DLC Registration Guide

Register your US messaging brand and campaign, understand requirements, and review fee types before sending SMS

What A2P 10DLC Is and When You Need It

A2P 10DLC is the US carrier registration system for application-to-person messaging over standard 10-digit long code phone numbers. If you want to send SMS from a US long-code number to US recipients, carriers require a registered business brand and an approved messaging campaign before traffic is fully trusted.

Tips

  • If you only use your SupaBook number for calling, A2P registration does not affect voice setup
  • If you plan to send reminders, follow-ups, confirmations, or two-way texts from a US number, complete A2P before launch
  • A2P helps reduce filtering and improves delivery when your use case and opt-in process are properly registered

Important notes

  • Sending SMS without approved A2P registration can lead to carrier filtering, blocking, or suspension
  • A2P applies to US messaging on 10DLC numbers — it is separate from your voice call flow setup

What You Need Before You Start

Gather your business and messaging details first. Current A2P onboarding requirements differ slightly by business type, but most registrations need verified business identity, sender details, and a clear messaging use case.

  1. Use an active SupaBook phone number

Buy or activate your business phone number in SupaBook first. A2P registration is tied to your messaging setup and active phone number service.

  2. Prepare your legal business details

Have your legal business name, business type, EIN or tax ID (or SSN for sole proprietors where applicable), website, business address, and contact email ready.

  3. Define your messaging use case

Be specific about what texts you will send, such as appointment reminders, lead follow-up, customer care, or marketing promotions.

  4. Prepare sample messages

Write realistic examples that match your actual workflow. Samples should identify your business and reflect the exact type of SMS you plan to send.

  5. Document your opt-in flow

Be ready to explain how contacts give consent. This can be a website form, intake form, checkout checkbox, keyword opt-in, or written consent process.

Tips

  • Your website should be live and match the business name you submit
  • Make sure your privacy policy and terms are available if your opt-in flow references a website
  • The more closely your campaign description, samples, and opt-in method match each other, the smoother approval usually is

Important notes

  • Mismatch between business name, website, and campaign use case is a common reason for review delays
  • Do not submit generic sample messages like 'hello from our business' if you actually send reminders or promotional texts

Brand Types: Standard vs Sole Proprietor

A2P registration supports different brand paths. Standard or low-volume standard registration is typically for incorporated businesses and LLCs. Sole proprietor registration is for individuals without a tax ID who are sending low-volume conversational traffic.

  1. Choose Standard registration for most businesses

Use Standard or Low-Volume Standard if you have a registered business entity and want normal business messaging throughput and broader campaign options.

  2. Use Sole Proprietor only if it truly fits

Choose Sole Proprietor only if you operate as an individual and meet the lower-volume requirements. Sole proprietor registration is more restrictive than standard brand registration.

  3. Know what each path affects

Your registration type impacts campaign eligibility, throughput expectations, and which business identity fields are required during review.

Tips

  • If you have an EIN and a formal business entity, Standard registration is usually the right path
  • Sole proprietor registration is best for true one-person businesses with simple, low-volume messaging use cases

Important notes

  • Choosing the wrong brand type can delay approval or require resubmission
  • Sole proprietor registration is not the best fit for higher-volume or more complex messaging programs

How to Complete A2P Registration in SupaBook

SupaBook handles the registration flow inside Messaging Compliance so you can submit your brand and campaign, pay the required fees, and track status in one place.

  1. Open Messaging Compliance

Go to Settings and open the Messaging Compliance section. This is where you manage A2P registration, fee checkout, and status tracking.

  2. Start your brand registration

Enter your business identity details exactly as they appear on your business records. Review for typos before continuing.

  3. Complete the registration fee checkout

SupaBook will prompt you to pay the required A2P registration fee before submission. The exact amount shown in your Compliance Billing Summary is the amount that will be charged.

  4. Create your campaign

Describe your messaging use case, opt-in method, sample messages, and any help or stop language required for your traffic type.

  5. Review campaign fees and submit

If your campaign type has a registration fee or recurring monthly fee, SupaBook will show it before final submission. Submit only after your business details, use case, and samples all match.

  6. Monitor status until approved

Use the compliance status area and phone number A2P indicators to track whether your brand and campaign are pending, approved, or need changes.

Tips

  • Use the same brand name everywhere: legal business name, website, samples, and campaign description
  • Keep message samples short, realistic, and clearly tied to your opt-in flow
  • If your campaign is rejected, fix the exact mismatch and resubmit instead of changing multiple things at once

What Reviewers Check Before Approval

Carrier and registry reviewers typically look for a complete and consistent registration package. The strongest submissions clearly show who is sending the messages, why the customer agreed to receive them, and what the actual messages will look like.

  1. Clear business identity

Your legal business name, website, and contact details should be real, reachable, and aligned with each other.

  2. Valid consent collection

Your opt-in explanation must show how a user knowingly signs up to receive texts from your business.

  3. Accurate sample messages

Samples should reflect your real traffic and usually include your business name so recipients know who is texting them.

  4. Proper compliance language

Depending on the use case, you may need HELP and STOP language, plus links to terms and privacy policy if opt-in happens on a website.

  5. Correct campaign classification

Pick the campaign use case that best matches your actual traffic. Avoid labeling promotional traffic as customer care just to get approved faster.

Tips

  • Appointment reminders, lead follow-up, support, and promotions should each be described honestly
  • If you collect opt-in verbally or offline, document the exact wording and process used by your team

Important notes

  • Misclassified campaigns can be rejected or later suspended
  • Missing opt-in details is one of the fastest ways to trigger additional review

How A2P Fees Work

A2P fees are usually split into brand-level and campaign-level charges. Fee structures can change over time and can vary by campaign type, so the most important number is always the live amount shown inside SupaBook before you submit payment.

  1. Brand registration fee

This is the one-time charge to submit and register your business brand for A2P messaging.

  2. Campaign registration fee

Some campaign types include a one-time campaign setup fee when you register the messaging use case.

  3. Monthly campaign fee

Certain campaign types also have an ongoing monthly fee while the campaign remains active.

  4. SupaBook billing summary

In SupaBook, the Compliance Billing Summary shows the exact total you will pay at checkout. This is the number to trust because it reflects the currently active pricing configured for your registration path.

Tips

  • Treat the Compliance Billing Summary as the final source of truth for your actual charge at the time of registration
  • Budget for both setup fees and any recurring monthly campaign fees if your use case requires them
  • Campaign fees are separate from your regular SMS usage charges and phone number subscription

Important notes

  • A2P fees are separate from phone number fees, SMS credit purchases, and voice billing
  • If a campaign has a recurring monthly fee, canceling or changing your CRM plan does not automatically remove that regulatory messaging fee

What to Expect After Submission

Approval time depends on your business type, campaign type, and whether your registration package is complete. Some registrations move quickly, while others may need manual review or corrections.

Tips

  • Expect extra review time if your website is incomplete, your opt-in flow is unclear, or your campaign description is generic
  • Do not launch US SMS campaigns until the brand and campaign both show as approved
  • Keep an eye on your phone number A2P status after approval so you can confirm the number is attached to the right campaign

Important notes

  • An approved brand does not automatically mean your campaign is approved — both matter
  • If the status changes to failed or requires attention, review the exact reason and correct that issue before retrying
