Custom Voice / Clone Voice
Create, preview, and use a custom cloned voice for your AI phone experience

What Custom Voice Does
Custom Voice lets you clone a voice you have permission to use so your AI phone experience sounds more personal and on-brand. You can preview the cloned voice first, then assign it to a phone number when your plan and AI engine support live use.
Tips
- Use a custom voice when you want your AI to sound closer to you or a member of your team
- If you only need a fast setup, start with a default voice and add a cloned voice later
Important notes
- Only upload and clone voices you have permission to use
- Plan access and production use limits can affect whether a cloned voice is preview-only or live-ready
How to Create a Custom Voice
The best clones start with a clean sample and a clear name. The create flow is simple, but sample quality matters.
Open Voices
Go to Phone → Voices in the sidebar, then open the Custom Voices tab.
Click Create Voice
Start the custom voice wizard from the Custom Voices tab.
Upload or record a sample
Use a clean voice sample in a supported audio format. A shorter, clean sample is usually better than a noisy recording.
Name the voice
Use a clear internal name such as Owner Voice, Sales Voice, or Front Desk Voice.
Submit and wait for processing
After submission, the system creates the custom voice and adds it to your Custom Voices list.
Tips
- Record in a quiet room with no music, echo, or overlapping voices
- Speak naturally with steady pacing so the cloned voice sounds more realistic
- A strong sample usually produces better results than trying to fix a poor recording later
Preview and Manage Your Cloned Voice
Once the voice is created, preview it before using it on a live phone number. If it does not sound right, create a better sample and try again.
Preview the voice
Use the play button in the Custom Voices list to hear how the clone sounds.
Check clarity and tone
Listen for pacing, pronunciation, and whether the voice matches the experience you want callers to hear.
Delete and recreate if needed
If the voice sounds off, remove it and create a new version with a cleaner recording.
Tips
- Preview with realistic script text so you hear the voice in a real call context
- Use simple internal naming so your team can quickly choose the right cloned voice later
Use a Custom Voice on a Phone Number
To use a cloned voice live, your phone number must be set to an AI engine that supports custom voices, and the number must have a production-ready call setup.
Open Phone Number Settings
Go to Phone Numbers, click your number, and open the Settings tab.
Choose the supported AI engine
Select the AI engine that supports premium and custom voices for live calling.
Select your cloned voice
Open the Voice picker and choose the custom voice from your available voices.
Save and test
Save the phone number settings and run a live test call to confirm the cloned voice sounds correct in production.
Tips
- Always test the custom voice on a real call before using it with live customers
- If the voice option is missing, check your AI engine and plan access first
Important notes
- A custom voice alone does not make the number ready — you still need the correct production call flow and verified phone setup
Limits and Best Practices
Custom voice availability can depend on your plan, whether the voice is sandbox-only or production-ready, and which AI engine is assigned to the phone number.
Tips
- Check your current plan limits before creating multiple cloned voices
- Keep one high-quality primary voice instead of many low-quality test voices
- Use custom voice for the caller-facing experience, but keep your call flow, greeting, and knowledge base aligned too
Important notes
- Some plans allow preview-only cloned voices and require an upgrade before live use
- Changing AI engine or phone settings can affect which voices are available in the phone number settings screen
