Configure each phone number tab, test setup, and understand what each panel controls

12 min. Updated 2026-03-11.

Open the Phone Number Settings Window

Go to Phone Numbers, click the number you want to manage, and the settings window will open. Each tab controls a different part of the phone number setup.

  1. Go to Phone Numbers

Open Phone Numbers from the sidebar.

  2. Select your number

Click the phone number you want to edit.

  3. Review the tabs

Use the tabs across the top to move between Settings, Memory, Verify, Errors, and Audit. Some support-enabled views may also show a Webhooks tab.

Tips

  • Start in Settings, then use Verify before going live
  • If something is failing, check Errors and Audit after you test the number

Settings Tab

The Settings tab controls the live behavior of the phone number. This is where you assign the production call flow, choose how greetings work, select the AI engine and voice, and run a live test call.

  1. Set the label

Give the number a clear internal label such as Main Line, Sales, Support, or After Hours.

  2. Choose the Production Call Flow

Pick the deployed call flow that should handle inbound calls. If you do not have one yet, build and deploy it first using the call flow guide.

  3. Choose the greeting source

Decide whether the greeting comes from the call flow start node, a voice preset greeting, or whether the system should wait for the caller to speak first.

  4. Use Test This Number

Enter a destination number and place a live test call through the current production configuration.

  5. Adjust greeting behavior

Set whether the agent speaks first, whether interruptions are blocked during the greeting, and how sensitive interruption detection should be.

  6. Pick the AI engine

Choose the engine that should handle conversations for this phone number. Your engine choice affects quality, available voices, and usage cost.

  7. Select the voice

Choose the voice the caller will hear. Some voices depend on the selected AI engine.

  8. Enable call recording if needed

Turn on recording if you need playback for review, coaching, or troubleshooting. Recorded minutes are billed at $0.02/min in addition to call usage. Storage is included during your tier retention window and playable media is auto-deleted after expiry.

  9. Save changes

Click Save Changes after updating any phone number setting.

Tips

  • The production call flow controls routing and logic; the voice setting controls how the AI sounds
  • Use a simple production call flow first, then improve it after testing
  • Run a live test call after every major change to the engine, voice, or greeting setup

Important notes

  • If no production call flow or active voice setup is assigned, inbound calls can fail
  • Switching engine types can change which voices are available, so re-check voice selection after changing engines

Memory Tab

The Memory tab controls whether the phone number remembers past conversations with repeat callers. This is useful when you want returning callers to get a more personalized experience.

  1. Turn memory on or off

Use the Enable Memory switch to decide whether this number remembers previous interactions.

  2. Review memory details

If memory is enabled, open the memory details area to inspect what is being stored and referenced for repeat callers.

  3. Save the change

Save after enabling or disabling memory for the number.

Tips

  • Memory works best for repeat callers such as leads, clients, or support conversations
  • If you want the AI to sound more personal on follow-up calls, enable memory here

Verify Tab

The Verify tab is the first place to check when you want to confirm the number is ready for live inbound calls. It shows setup status, runs an inbound routing check, and gives you repair actions if setup needs attention.

  1. Review verification status

Check whether the number is verified, not yet verified, or needs attention.

  2. Run Test Inbound

Use Test Inbound to simulate how an inbound call would route through the current phone number configuration.

  3. Run Verify

Use Verify to confirm the setup is aligned and ready.

  4. Use Fix Setup if needed

If the number shows configuration issues, run Fix Setup and then verify again.

  5. Resolve missing call flow issues

If Verify says no production call flow is assigned, create or deploy the correct call flow and assign it in Settings.

Tips

  • Use Verify before launching a new number or after changing routing
  • If Test Inbound fails, compare the failure with your Settings tab and call flow assignment

Important notes

  • Passing a live outbound test call does not replace the inbound Verify check
  • If Verify says inbound calls will fail, do not treat the number as production-ready

Errors Tab

The Errors tab shows recent call issues tied to the number. Use it when callers report problems or after a failed test.

  1. Open Errors after a failed call

Check this tab after a failed inbound or outbound test to see recent call issues.

  2. Review recent issue entries

Look for the most recent call issues, warnings, or fallback events connected to the number.

  3. Use the issue to narrow the cause

Compare the issue timing with your last configuration changes, call flow edits, or testing attempts.

Tips

  • Use Errors together with Verify for faster troubleshooting
  • Repeated issues after the same change usually point to a setup problem, not a one-off call failure

Audit Tab

The Audit tab shows a history of actions taken on the phone number, such as configuration changes or setup events. Use it to understand what changed and when.

  1. Open Audit history

Review the action log for recent changes to the phone number.

  2. Match changes to outcomes

If a problem started after a settings change, use the audit history to confirm exactly what changed and when.

  3. Use Audit with Errors

Compare timestamps in Audit and Errors to pinpoint whether an issue started after a specific configuration update.

Tips

  • Audit is useful when multiple team members manage the same phone number
  • Use it as a timeline whenever you need to trace setup changes

Webhooks Tab

Some support-enabled views include a Webhooks tab for advanced endpoint visibility. Most users do not need this tab for day-to-day setup because Verify and Fix Setup cover the user-facing workflow.

Tips

  • For day-to-day setup, focus on Settings, Verify, Errors, and Audit
  • For most teams, the Verify tab is the correct place to confirm the number is ready

Next Step: Build or Update Your Call Flow

If you are using this phone number for live inbound AI calls, the last setup step is making sure the right production call flow is assigned. Build, test, and deploy your flow first, then return to the Settings tab and assign it to the number.

  1. Create or update the call flow

Open the call flow builder and create the exact routing logic you want. You can also use Voice Mode and say "Create a call flow and open the editor" to jump straight into a new flow, "Run voice AI setup playbook" for guided setup, or "Run profile pain-point walkthrough" for a personalized demo that now includes SMS automation and Leads visibility steps.

  2. Deploy it to production

Only production-ready call flows should be assigned to live numbers.

  3. Return to Phone Number Settings

Assign the production call flow in the Settings tab, then use Verify again.

Tips

  • Treat the call flow guide as part of phone number setup, not a separate optional task
